The perimeter of the Jamaican flag is 120 inches. Its length is twice its width. Find the dimensions of the flag.

Answer :

120 = 2L + 2W and L=2W
120 = 2(2W) + 2W = 4W + 2W = 6W
120/6= W
Width = 20”
Length = 2W = 40”
The flag is 20” x 40”.

The dimensions of Jamaican flag are length is equal to 40 inches and width is equal to 20 inches.

It is given that perimeter of Jamaican flag is 120 inches and length is twice the width of flag.

We have to find out the dimensions of the flag.

What is the perimeter of a rectangle ?

The perimeter of a rectangle is equal to 2 times the sum of length and width i.e., P = 2(L + B) where L is length and B is width of rectangle.

As per the question ;

Perimeter of Jamaican flag = 120 inches

Let's assume width be x.

Then ;

Length = 2x

So ;

To find out the dimensions let's use the formula of perimeter which is ;

P = 2(L + B)

⇒ 120 = 2 (x + 2x)

⇒ 120 = 2 × 3x

⇒ 120 = 6x

⇒ x = 120 ÷ 6

⇒ x = 20 inches

Width = 20 inches

and the length will be ;

= 2 × 20

= 40 inches

Thus , the dimensions of Jamaican flag are length is equal to 40 inches and width is equal to 20 inches.
