What is the braking distance?

It is the sum of the thinking distance (the distance traveled by the vehicle while the driver reacts to a hazard and decides to apply the brakes) and the braking distance (the distance traveled by the vehicle while the brakes are being applied to slow it down).

Given that;

F = ma

a = F/m

a = 5000 N/1500 Kg

a = 3.33 m/s^2

Given that;

v^2 = u^2 - 2as

Since v = 0

u^2 = 2as

s = u^2/2a

s = (20)^2/2 * 3.33

s = 60 m
