Whose experiment addressed the question of whether a genetic trait can be transferred from one bacterial strain to another?

Answer :

Griffith conducted the first experiment that provided evidence that bacteria can transform, or exchange genetic material, to do so. Frederick Griffith, a British bacteriologist, named "transforming principle."

Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria were the subject of two studies by Frederick. Griffith came to the conclusion that the heat-killed S bacteria must have given out a "transforming principle" that the R-strain bacteria may have absorbed, allowing them to "transform" into smooth-coated bacteria and become virulent. Griffith's well-known experiment demonstrated to us how clearly bacteria may morph to change both their function and appearance. The process of transformation occurs when something turns into another. Griffith used mice in his experiment to administer mice with two different strains of streptococcus pneumoniae, Type III-S and Type II-R.
