The cooling unit of an air conditioner is placed near the top of a room. The air conditioner takes in warm air and releases cold air, which then sinks. Danny explains that this is because cooler air molecules are denser, causing the cold air to sink.

Explain why Danny's explanation is wrong. State the correct explanation.

Answer :

The density of cool and warm air molecules is the same.

Cool air is however more dense because of the number of molecules in a unit volume. Thus, cool air should sink within warm air.
